The look: With an elegant bar dominating the outdoor beer garden, you can mingle alfresco or sit inside with new friends on the comfy aqua lounges.
The soundtrack: Kicking off with easy-listening tunes from Coldplay – later on the DJ’s spin pop and house tunes such as Groove Armada. Watch out for the live bongo and sax players on Friday nights.
I’m thirsty: Ryan’s Bar go through more beer than any other Sydney city bar so don’t embarrass yourself by trying to order a cocktail. Try the popular Japanese Asahi ($6.90) or a schooner of Carlton draft instead.
Bar bites: Drinking on an empty stomach? Try the grilled salmon fillet ($15) or smoked chicken and brie pizza ($16).
Best for: Meeting mates after work or picking up new friends. With up to 2,500 people drinking on Friday nights you’ll have your pick of suits or gorgeous city gals.
The quirky factor: Free ping pong on Monday’s from 5pm and three Plasma TV screens which broadcast international sporting games.
