Libertine

Libertine

Isn’t Libertine all about corsets and cleavage? Cleavage, maybe – it actually translates as ‘morally or sexually unrestrained’, which suits this bar/restaurant’s slightly seedy location. That said, don’t try to dance on tables in your undies here; once you step inside, it’s all class.
What’s the look?
Designer wallpaper, gold-leaf walls and window seats piled with rich cushions.
Where should I sit? If you’re dining on the yummy French/Vietnamese cuisine, choose from The Fish Room, The Gold Room or the Lantern Terrace. Don’t miss the Crispy Squid ($14), Grilled Caramelised Green King Prawns ($18).
And if I’m imbibing? Try The Salon – or The Parlour, a plush, private little nook just made for sipping cocktails and whispering sweet nothings. Drinks-wise, the Vietnamese lemonade is delish (pitchers $65, serves five), or try the Libertini, the bar’s smooth-as-silk signature cocktail which muddles lychees with gin and peach liquor ($13).
How’s the music? Funky soul and groove, party tunes on Saturday nights.
The wow factor: Definitely the chandeliers from Dusk, a Darlinghurst antique store.
Who to take? This place oozes seduction so you can’t go wrong bringing your lover.
