Tuscan Bar

Tuscan Bar

The look: Some bars go for subtle European touches; the Tuscan opts for all-out Italy luxe. There’s trompe l'œil work, a reproduction of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, plus lots of wood panelling, gilding and chandelier action.
To drink: Wine, naturally, is a big part of the Tuscan experience and the list goes well beyond Chianti to include France, Australia and New Zealand. On the spirits side, grappa or limoncello are the key to an authentic Italian look but Tuscan house cocktails ($18 each) prolong your drinking pleasure.
To eat: A greatest-hits selection from the Italian culinary canon. Snacky starters include bruschetta ($9.50) meatballs ($13.50) or antipasto platters ($28 for two) while mains cover the likes of risotto ($24) and braised lamb shanks ($22.50). Finish with specially selected fontina, gorgonzola or parmigiano ($12 each).
The crowd: late 20s and up.
Best for: Given its location, the Tuscan Bar is handy for pre-theatre bites or a post-show supper.
