The look: Imagine a modern day Alice in Wonderland all grown up and out on the town – The Clarendon could be where you’d find her. Each room sports bold décor and a confident colour scheme as well as slightly eccentric touches like shelves of quirky collectibles or the wall of mirrors.
To drink: Wine is a particular focus and the edited list does a broad sweep of classic styles and recognised producers from (mainly) Australian regions but there’s also an extended version for buffs who want to go beyond the by-the-glass selections.
To eat: Boasting a strong fresh produce philosophy, food has definitely been factored in to the Clarendon experience. While the hotel’s upscale refurb hasn’t shut out pub standards, you’ll also find more gourmet menu items such as duck lasagne or soft shell crab.
The vibe: Buzzy and ebullient.
Best for: Indulging your upmarket and casual sides simultaneously by ordering pizza with Moet, for example.
