The inside story: The bordello lighting and flocked wallpaper of Yelza (the bar’s previous incarnation) remain but the claustrophobic furniture arrangements have been scaled back in favour of simple leather lounges and wicker chairs.
The outside story: A rear tropical beer garden complete with outdoor bar and a DJ gazebo boasting ample dance space. There’s also a token Franco Cozzo suite, so not everything went to garage sale heaven.
To drink: Save time and effort with the table keg ($45/$50 depending on your choice of brew). Simply press the dispenser tap for beer on demand. Otherwise, pick from the usual selection of grape and grain-based beverages.
Bar soundtrack: Ranges from Al Green to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs – and that’s just in the one set.
The crowd: Laidback locals in search of gimmick-free fun.
Best for: Pre-or-post-dinner drinks; Ladro is literally across the road. Also good for balmy evenings but fear not, outdoor heaters are on permanent standby.
