The inside story: Still the bar you remember and the choice of velour loving libertines. The fish tank is gone, paving the way for some home improvements, but the baroque furnishings and salon ambience remains.
The outside story: Changes to the smoking laws clearly prompted Polly to get creative and the Peacock Room is the result. Basically a front porch conservatory that looks ripped from a stately home, it’s filled with stone benches, wall fountains, potted palms and elegant bird motifs.
To drink: While there’s a pretty comprehensive selection of beer, wine and spirits, cocktails are king (or queen) here. Try the Lusty Busty Maiden with raspberry and hazelnut ($15.50), the Violet Crumble Martini ($15) or Breakfast at Tiffany’s ($15.50) with rose liqueur.
To eat: a changing selection of snacks and more substantial eats but you can always rely on a warm bowl of olives or platter of dips ($10). Best for: As if you need a reason.
