The Local Taphouse
The look: Beer is the star attraction here; the vintage advertising posters and photography make that pretty clear but the décor’s stout and amber tones are subliminal reminders. Feeling thirsty yet?
The great outdoors: Upstairs, opposite the shutter-lined walls and birdcage style lights, you’ll find an attractive open air terrace.
To drink: With more than 60 local and international brews on offer, now’s not the time to stick to the tried and tested. Broaden your horizons with a Beer Paddle ($10 each) which gets you 5 different samples or grab a copy of the Beer Book and start reading up on Eisbock, Dunkelwiezen, Gueuze and more.
To eat: Pub classics, many with beer flavoured sauces and seasonings like the grilled chicken breast with lime & pilsner mayo ($17) or the porter glazed roast beef salad ($16).
The crowd: beer enthusiasts and young-ish locals.
Best for: Wintry afternoons and evenings with a handful of friends.
